Summary:  
The Production Manager ensures excellence in all assigned areas in terms of safety, quality, cost and delivery performance. By actively driving continuous improvement with Point and System CIPs, the Production Manager isrealizing the company’s strategy on the Shopfloor. 

Responsibilities: 
  • Ensure safe operations & highest performance with Zero-Defects and On-Time-In-Full shipments.
  • Initiate and Drive Continuous Improvement in the sense of the WITTENSTEIN Production System in all assigned areas and processes. Actively propose further improvement ideas on interfaces to assigned areas to Plant Manager (e.g. Make and/or Buy decisions). 
  • Lead and develop Team Leaders and direct reports, such as Production & Materials Planning. Motivate the entire production team. Actively guide the team through Change Management Cycles.
  • Responsibility for budgets, investments and costs.
  • Report on KPI’s performance (i.e. OTIF, scrap, efficiency/productivity, safety, inventory, manufacturing costs) to Plant Manager.
  • Monitor and continuously improve production related costs and product quality. Increase productivity and efficient / effective resource usage within assigned areas.
  • Ensure compliance (including safety and environmental standards) within area of responsibility.
  • Ensure timely containment and corrective action in case of quality incidents, esp. customer complaints, in close cooperation with the CAIR Team. Participate in recurring CAIR Team Meetings.
  • Ensure all assigned areas have and follow up-to-date standards including documentation and training programs for all applicable processes. Identify training needs and implement new training programs as needed.
  • Translate sales forecasts into material and resource needs and take appropriate actions to continue to meet the customer’s requirements.
  • Recruit, interview, hire and train new staff. Complete annual performance reviews of direct staff on-time. Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy and coordination with Human Resources.
  • Maintain appropriate communications at all levels within and outside of area of responsibility. Keep employees informed as on company/department plans and progress in and outside of company-wide presentation formats.
  • Delegate work assignments; match the responsibility to the person; give authority to work independently; set expectations and monitor delegated activities; provide recognition for results.
  • Responsible for ensuring replenishment and continuous improvement of all relevant tools, fixtures and work holdings in the assigned areas.
  • Coordinate activities of assigned units with those of other company units. Seek mutual agreement on problems involving coordination. 
Examples of relevant interfaces:
  • Procurement: on parts availability and improvements of the external supply chain (and more). 
    Quality Assurance: on in-process and incoming inspection (and more).
  • Logistics: on many day-to-day interfaces like with receiving, internal transport, shipping and many others, as well as improvements in all mentioned areas (and more). 
  • Sales: on continuously meeting our customers’ demands in the best possible way (and more). 
  • Maintenance: on ensuring maximum technical availability (and more). 
  • Headquarters: on following process guidelines given by the lead plant as well as working on implementing new processes in Bartlett (and more).

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of successful Management of Machining and/or Assembly Teams experience in a high precision manufacturing environment is required
  • Experience working in quality driven manufacturing is highly preferred, preferred gear manufacturing and assembly.
  • Must have the ability to achieve exceptional performance in On-Time-In-Full Delivery, Quality, Labor Efficiency, Expense Control, Shop Floor Organization (5S), and Process Improvements (value stream analysis and design).
  • Must be knowledgeable about all aspects of Operations Management (including Machining, Assembly, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Logistics and Planning).
  • Must be knowledgeable about Lean Method, Best Practices and Factory Automation
  • Must be highly skilled at recognizing, diagnosing, and solving problems, and putting effective processes in place to prevent future recurrence.
  • Experience working with high precision CNC Machinery is required.
  • Familiar with OSHA safety regulations.
  • Experience using SAP, Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint is required.
  • Intercultural competency is required (esp. German business culture preferred).
  • ISO 9001 experience is required.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, analytical and presentation skills.
  • Experience in a matrix organization required.
  • Travel internationally as needed.
Education:
  • BA/BS in Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineering, Operations Management or related field is strongly preferred.
