WITTENSTEIN at the Hanover Fair 2013: Innovation driver for mechatronic drive technology

WITTENSTEIN AG will exhibit at two flagship trade fairs: Industrial Automation and MobiliTec.

At the forthcoming Hanover Fair 2013 WITTENSTEIN AG will once again exhibit at two flagship trade fairs. From April 8 to 12, the Group will portray itself as an innovation driver for mechatronic drive technology at Industrial Automation in Hall 15 (Stand F08). At the joint E-MOTIVE Stand No. K12 (02) at MobiliTec in Hall 25 a rather special exhibit will underline WITTENSTEIN's pole position in the market for electromobile drive technology: an e-racing motorbike with a top speed of 155 mph that has enjoyed several impressive international successes in the World Championship during the last few months.

The main stand No. F08 in Hall 15 will celebrate a special anniversary: the world's first low-backlash planetary gearhead was unveiled exactly thirty years ago at the Hanover Fair 1983. Dr. Manfred Wittenstein, today President of WITTENSTEIN AG, recognized – and seized – the golden opportunity that arose in the wake of the technology shift from line shafts featuring a central drive to decentralized drives. Looking back, it was this product that laid the foundation for the Group's growth to global technology and market leader in the mechatronic drive technology sector three decades later.

The world's first low-backlash planetary gearhead in hygienic design is the newest demonstration of WITTENSTEIN alpha GmbH's innovative vitality. The biggest subsidiary's latest gearhead series, which was designed amongst other things for use in packaging machines for food and pharmaceutical products, will be premièred in Hanover.

 

Exploring new horizons with Industry 4.0

Driven by a visionary pioneering spirit, WITTENSTEIN has for some time now been committed to implementing Industry 4.0 – the high-tech IT strategy that marks the fourth stage of the Industrial Revolution. At its Stand No. F08 in Hall 15 the Group will show how adaptability, flexibility, resource efficiency, ergonomics and interconnected business and value creation processes can revolutionize industrial production in the next few years with the help of cyber-physical systems and the Internet of Things. Using the mechatronic system construction kit developed by WITTENSTEIN tool drives as a novel approach to woodworking that integrates 'elements' of Industry 4.0, WITTENSTEIN will pinpoint ways in which the manufacture of highly customized industrial products can in future be reconciled with maximum flexibility regardless of the batch size.

WITTENSTEIN will continue to play a leading role in the development of smart drive solutions for the "smart factory" – for example as consortium leader for the CyProS research project.

 

Development partner for electromobility

Acknowledged technological expertise and a tradition of innovativeness are the mainstays of WITTENSTEIN AG's success – and of its reputation as a pioneer and partner in the development of eMobile drive concepts. At the joint E-MOTIVE Stand No. K12 (02) at MobiliTec in Hall 25 the company will portray itself as a sought-after development partner in the electromobility sector. Together with the Würzburg based Münch Racing Team, WITTENSTEIN has notched up several notable successes over the last few years, ending the season twice as World Champion and once as runner-up. One rather special highlight for visitors who are also motor racing enthusiasts will undoubtedly be the original Münch machine: this race-proven eBike achieves around 150 hp and a top speed of more than 155 mph.

If the challenges can be mastered in a motor racing vehicle, the potential for production-ready innovations that enhance the performance of eMobile drive concepts is high. The insights gained by WITTENSTEIN from projects of this kind simultaneously aid the development of close-to-series powertrain solutions for electric vehicles. As one instance, WITTENSTEIN is currently supplying a complete powertrain for high performance electric or Maxi E-scooters to a major automotive manufacturer in its role as development and project partner.
